My husband and I worked on a renovation project recently – it was a major structural renovation, modifying the internal layout, removing internal double brick walls, creating new rooms and cutting openings for windows. Everything internally was either demolished or removed.
This is the before and after photos of the kitchen.
Our goal – make the kitchen larger, create more natural light, colours to be neutral and timeless, warm and inviting, create lots of storage space.
We made the kitchen larger by closing off the doorway and moving the wall out to make a tall pantry with U-shaped shelves to make it easy to access. The existing window space was enlarged letting in lots of northern light – the larger window required approval.
Cupboard doors are white polyurathane and shadowline (no handles, simple internal angle on the top to open) which we love as it gives a streamlined look with the stainless steel kicks. The benchtop is classic white with tiny flecks – engineered stone in Alpine White. To make the most of the space we included 2 corner cupboards. Splashback is large tiles (600mm x 600mm) which the tiler loved to install! It’s also easy to clean durable.
Using neutral tones and plain doors and splashback gives a classic look that will wear well and keep up-to-date for some years to come.
