I’ve been blessed to have completed some road trips recently and some exploring.
You may be wondering what Canberra buildings, Floriade flowers and your entry hall have in common?
We drove down to Canberra in the ACT. I haven’t been to Canberra since before Covid. There was a lot of development on the main street driving in, Northbourne Avenue, maybe up to eight storeys tall. If you haven’t been to Canberra, it’s very leafy with gum trees and deciduous trees. The drive in surprised me because of the lack of colour in the new buildings. There was a lot of white, or raw concrete finishes. It felt cold and grey even though the sun was out, simply because of the grey and white buildings. Then we started seeing signs for Floriade and it’s all about vibrant colours of the rainbow.

The atmosphere at Floriade amongst all the colours was one of fun, and joy. People were relaxed and enjoying being outdoors in the sunshine.

It made me think about home, and how the front hallway that is the first space you see when you come home. Is it dark and lacking in natural light and colour like the grey and white buildings in Canberra?
What could you do to make it more welcoming? Adding prints/photos or paintings? A rug or runner? A plant in a coloured pot? Can you bring some of the outdoors in? Do some brainstorming to see what you come up with. Remember light colours give a feeling of more space, darker colours bring a feeling of smaller space.
See you next time for Part 4 for inspiration for your Living Room.
Wishing you a joyful week.
