Tomorrow is the first day of Spring here in Sydney Australia. Already we’ve had some warmer than average days and the grass is growing quicker. I’m thinking it’s time to tidy up my front garden.
Last time I talked about decluttering your home, read more here. Once you’ve finished step one, it’s time to move to step two – the front entrance.
The front entrance to your home should welcome you with a feeling of calm and make you smile as you approach the front door. Often the front entrance is neglected as being not important or overlooked. And it’s not just a welcome to you, it’s a welcome to visitors.
No matter if you rent, own your home, live in a unit or townhouse, there are many simple ways to tidy. The entrance should inclue colours, decorations and plants that you love.
This is my front footpath and garden. The close up is of the garden bed on the right of the front path. We are slowing growing a murraya hedge (closest to the fence), which will create a wonderful thick green wall. I’ve always wanted lavender plants, the look and the frangrance is amazing, I’ve planted two purple ones to make sure they grow and will add some more. Right at the front of the path are some yellow pansies. Yellow makes me smile and feel good. So every time I go out, or come home I feel content and happy.
This is the other side of my driveway with masses of flowering impatiens. We had people stopping and commenting on them – a great way to meet people and make new friends too.
Here are some ideas to creating a welcoming front entrance that you love:
Beautifully fragrant flowers and your favourite colours
Stunningly simple foliage plants in gloriously coloured pots
A mowed lawn
Weed free garden
Pruned hedges or a wonderfully wild cottage garden
A clean path
Cluttter free front year or stairwell
A seat or bench to enjoy the sunshine
A pot plant near the front door in a colour that you love (real if you’re a green thumb, or artificial for long life!)
A decorative wreath or ornament on the front door
A new doormat with wonderful colours or positive words
Some simple ideas, that using the right colours that inspire and uplift you, can make a world of difference to your sense of calmness and harmony. Feel your tension ease, relaxation take over and feel welcomed home.
See you next time for Part 3 – Decorating your entry hall
Wishing you sunshine and happiness.
